The Empire

The Empire

The Empire of Stomaria is a federal monarchy.

Provinces

The territorial holdings of the Empire takes the form of freehold land that the governing bodies of Stomaria and the member states of the Empire have authority over with the Emperor of Stomaria determining whether or not to designate land as territory of the Empire.

These territorial holdings are divided into provinces, each of which is maintained and organised by an appointed governor. Member states may, with the approval of the Emperor of Stomaria, appoint their own governors to those provinces that they have authority over.

Member States

Member states are nations that have freely joined the Empire, having met the necessary criteria, agreed to the terms and conditions for membership and been approved by the Emperor of Stomaria.

Broadly speaking, member states must accept a common head of state, common foreign policy, common money, common territory, common citizenship, common military and common language while retaining control of their own domestic affairs.

Some of the specific benefits that a member state can expect would include the following:

  • Citizens of the member state will be permitted to attend summits, gatherings, festivities, markets and other events.
  • The member state will be advertised across Stomaria's website and social media accounts.
  • The member state will be provided with standardised artwork and promotional material.
  • The member state will be represented on silver stater bars.
  • The governing body of the member state will be permitted to purchase limited amounts of premium-free gold and silver staters directly from Stomaria periodically.
  • The governing body of the member state will have the opportunity to establish trade agreements with Stomaria and other member states of the Empire.
  • The highest authority of the member state will have the opportunity to engage in joint purchase agreements with the Emperor of Stomaria to secure additional territory.
  • The highest authority and appointed governors of the member state will be permitted to join the Imperial Court.

In order for a nation to qualify as a member state, the following criteria is considered:

  • Longevity - when was the nation founded?
  • Consistency - how often has the nation changed its name, flag, government structure and so forth?
  • Maturity - how old is the highest authority of the nation and have they taken part in activities that would bring Stomaria into disrepute?
  • Ideology - are the values and objectives of the nation compatible with Stomaria's?
  • Activity - does the nation have a proven track record of consistent activity and progress?
  • Territory - where is the claimed territory of the nation and what does it consist of?
  • Community - has the nation developed a verifiable community and cultural identity?

In order for a qualifying nation to become a member state, the following terms and conditions must be agreed to:

  • The highest authority of that nation must become and remain a citizen of Stomaria.
  • The highest authority of that nation must not engage in any activity that could bring Stomaria into disrepute.
  • The highest authority of that nation must remain active and engaged with Stomaria.
  • The nation must recognise the Emperor of Stomaria as the head of state.
  • The nation must not have formal affiliations (alliances, treaties, trade agreements and so forth) with other nations, communities, groups or organisations that aren't formally affiliated with Stomaria.
  • The nation must accept staters as a medium of exchange, contribute towards the production of additional staters and report on the holdings of staters within its treasury.
  • The nation must designate freehold land as provinces of the Empire as determined by the Emperor of Stomaria.
  • The citizens of that nation must be permitted to become citizens of Stomaria and other member states.
  • The citizens of that nation, if qualified, must be permitted to join the Imperial Guard.
  • The citizens of that nation must be able to communicate in English as a first or second language.

These benefits, qualifying criteria and terms and conditions are subject to change and are regularly reviewed.

Imperial Court

The Imperial Court is an advisory body that consists of members of the Imperial Family, Stomarian nobles, the highest authority of each member state and provincial governors. In this way, every province and nation within the Empire is represented.

Meetings are held on a regular basis and include updates from each member state regarding their own development and expansion, discussions regarding matters that concern the Empire as a whole and announcements regarding the actions that have been taken to advance our shared values and objectives. These meetings are an opportunity for leading members of the Empire to air their concerns, keep updated with recent events and build ties with leading members of the Empire.

Emperor

Excluding the domestic affairs of the member states that form a part of the Empire, the authority of the Emperor is absolute. A non-exhaustive list would include the power to:

  • Approve or decline an application for citizenship.
  • Appoint or dismiss a citizen from any position within Stomaria.
  • Revoke the citizenship of a citizen of Stomaria.
  • Act as the commander-in-chief of the Imperial Guard.
  • Approve or decline an application from a nation to form a part of the Empire as a member state.
  • Revoke the membership of a nation that forms part of the Empire.
  • Determine whether or not to designate land as territory of the Empire.
  • Authorise the appointment of governors to provinces that member states have authority over.
  • Determine the rules, regulations and laws of Stomaria.
  • Determine the foreign policy of the Empire in terms of external alliances, treaties, trade agreements and so on.
  • Determine the structure and organisation of the Empire.
  • Authorise the minting of Stomarian staters.
